Using previously unpublished archival materials, this volume looks at the history of Edition Suhrkamp. It examines its titles and design as well as its various influences, from the initial planning to its replacement with a new series in 1980. This work refines the scholarly and literary understanding of Edition Suhrkamp and compares it to competing series within Suhrkamp and from other publishing houses.
