When the Duke of Sarcen conceives his plot to save his young queen, he encounters a number of seemingly impossible problems to surmount--most of them starting and ending with Josephine Benate. But then again, when he grabs her and hauls her back through the gateway, it isn't at all helpful that they land in the wrong time--by several hundred, or maybe thousand years.
