Fridtjof Wedel-Jarlsberg Nansen (1861 - 1930) was a Norwegian explorer, scientist, humanitarian, and diplomat. He was also a Noble Peace Prize laureate. He was the first man to reach the farthest northern latitude during his Fram Expedition and pioneered crossing the Greenland interior with a team of his supporters. Although he quit explorations further in his life, his innovations to closing and equipment were widely used by a number of the following generation of Arctic and Antarctic explorers.
