The poems gathered in this collection celebrate life in its many forms, human children and other-than-human nature more particularly. They also thematize the joys and vicissitudes of motherhood, relationships, as well as cruelty, trauma and healing. Some of them might trigger sensitive readers.

Hélène Sicard had a long career teaching French language and literature at the university level. She currently works for a non-profit based in Iowa City, in the US. Heart Openers is her first poetry collection.
