At eighteen, Rebecca Miller loses her parents in a car accident and thinks nothing worse could possibly happen. But among the things they left behind, she finds a letter revealing that she was adopted illegally. Old records uncover an even darker detail. On the night Rebecca was born, Evelyn Ashford died in a California clinic, while her newborn daughter was officially declared dead. The only person who may know the truth is Jonathan Ashford, one of the most powerful men in the country. Rebecca enters his home disguised as an assistant, planning to find answers and disappear. But the closer she gets to the truth, the clearer it becomes that eighteen years ago, she was not lost by accident. Someone made sure Evelyn Ashford's daughter would never exist. And that person is still close.
