In the autumn of 2019, my mother was diagnosed with cancer. In the winter of 2019, she underwent chemotherapy and surgery. In March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic hit the United States. In April 2020, my mother was declared in remission; later that same April, my mother's cancer was found to have spread to her brain. In October of 2020, my mother died.
