Sacramentan newspaper reporter Liz Cane is honored and hopeful when the paper's respected Capitol columnist, Eugene Holland, asks her for a ride to work. When she arrives at his home in hopes of a story for the newspaper, she finds him dead. She will need to uncover what she does not know about Holland in order to find out why he is dead and who did it.

Native Californian, Kathleen L. Asay, is a writer and editor in the Sacramento region. A long-time member of the Sacramento Chapter of Sisters in Crime, she has edited and had short fiction published in the chapter's Capitol Crimes anthologies. Her short story, "Buy the Farm," appeared in the award-winning 2023 Bouchercon anthology, Killin' Time in San Diego. Her novel, Flint House, is the first in the series to feature reporter Liz Cane
