This book presents a comprehensive overview of photocatalytic oxidation and its transformative role in addressing modern environmental challenges. It explores the fundamental mechanisms, synthesis strategies (including green routes), characterization tools, and applications in water, air, and soil remediation. Covering both well-established and emerging topics, such as carbon dioxide conversion, hydrogen peroxide synthesis, and the treatment of complex pollutants, the book combines theoretical insights with real-world applications. Special attention is given to sustainability, health impacts, scale-up constraints, and integration into modern environmental technologies.

Autorentext

Lai Chin Wei is a full professor in the Nanotechnology and Catalysis Research Centre, a National Higher Institution Centre of Excellence (HiCoE), at Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. Prof. Lai's main research interests include chemically modified and functionalized metal oxide photocatalysts and carbon-based graphene materials, particularly for advancing sustainable development through inclusive science, technology, and innovation in environmental pollution management and energy storage technologies. His research contributes to fundamental knowledge while fostering groundbreaking collaborations with multinational companies, institutions, and NGOs. These partnerships help steer research efforts toward critical aspects of nanomaterial development for a wide range of innovative applications. Prof. Lai's scholarly achievements and thought leadership have been recognized both locally and internationally.

Jenny Chau Hui Foong is a postdoctoral researcher at the Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory, Dongguan, China, where she applies photocatalysis to synthetic organic chemistry. She obtained her Master's degree in analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis and a PhD in materials engineering from Universiti Malaya, Malaysia, in 2018 and 2024, respectively. Her research focuses on the synthesis and application of photocatalysts, with her early contributions addressing organic waste remediation.
