After creating the universe in six days, God rested on the seventh.

And on that day, all Hell broke loose.

Adam was an atheist in life on Earth, so he has trouble understanding why he has been summoned to man the Cosmic Command Center while God is taking a little, well-deserved, R-and-R. It is pretty simple, he's told. Just use the control panel at the checkout of a rundown minimart to keep an eye on Earth's mortal misfits.

But when Adam is distracted by a hot, sexy angel, he gets locked out of the Command Center and is forced to make an Oz-like journey to a distant monastery for a key to get back inside before civilization, left unsupervised, destroys itself. Along the way, he encounters a number of quirky characters that provide humorous examples of individual spirituality that ultimately have Adam reevaluating his own beliefs (or lack thereof).
