Janine never minded taking care of her little sister, Kacie, when their mom took off for several days.

That was her job. Besides, Mom always came back.

Only this time, their mother didn't return, and they were out of food. Hungry and worried, Janine took Kacie to their elderly neighbor's apartment. Mrs. Bailey fed the girls and helped in the only way she could, by calling 9-1-1.

It was a phone call that would change Janine's and Kacie's lives forever.

"This beautifully told story authentically brings foster care to life through the eyes of two unforgettable girls."
