Adam Geard is in Namibia when he hears that his closest friend, Mike Campbell has been shot assassin style, while on an assignment in Port Elizabeth, and is on the critical list. He is in the Eastern Cape coast town by the afternoon of the following day and there hears that Mike's mission was to investigate the murder of an accountant at a large motor dealership, the largest supplier of Toyota taxis in the region. Within days Adam and his two companions, his partner Laurie and Beth an investigator in Mike's firm, are also perceived to be threats and survive two deadly night attacks. Adam is thrust into the lethal world of the taxi industry, a corrupt chain of enablers working together to illegally share the spoils of the government's recapitulation programme: crime intelligence, motor and scrap dealers and the licensing registration authorities. And there are rumours of one man, ex-Rhodesian Special Forces, doing the secret and professional kills.
