CAMARADES PART 2 - DESCENDANTS is the second family history album in a series based on the Moorman-Flippin Legacy. Eight African American descendants follow in the footsteps of the five World War I Pittsylvania County Patriots. Their military service spans 80 years from World War II to 2025.

Educator and amateur genealogist, Sybil Johnson Gilchrist grew up in Portsmouth and Danville, Virginia. She holds a BA in English from Virginia Union University and an MA in French from Boston University. Gilchrist spent her Junior Year Abroad at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. In 1967, she signed up for the US Peace Corps and taught English as a Second Language in Francophone Cameroon. After her experiences in West Africa, Gilchrist relocated to Massachusetts. She taught in the Boston Public Schools before devoting 34 years to the Medford Public Schools where she was a teacher of French and other languages. Upon retiring, Gilchrist worked as a freelance French>English translator and church administrative assistant. Currently, the author is active in regional organizations. She serves on the Board of the New England Translators Association (NETA), the New England chapter of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogy Society (AAHGS-NE), as well as the Stoneham 4 Social Justice Network (S4SJ). In addition to giving presentations on her family's history, she has written several articles for genealogy newsletters regarding the Moorman-Flippin Legacy. Sybil is married to Steven Gilchrist, Sr. They are the proud parents of Janelle (Chris) and Steven (Serena) as well as blessed grandparents of Janessa. CAMARADES OF WAR I-PART 2 -DESCENDANTS is the author's second book which extends the military lineage initiated in Book 1. In addition to official records, family members and friends have provided valuable information and support for this project
